Zitadel now available for Montel Customers

Thanks to the tireless research, benchmarking and DevOps work of our SecOps chief Wouter our MontelCare service now includes a modern authentication system that makes signing in easier and puts you in control of who gets to access the tools and services.

What is Zitadel?

Zitadel is a centralised identity and access management platform. In plain English, it handles signing in: verifying who you are and helping you access the right applications. It brings user accounts and authentication together, so every service doesn’t need its own separate login setup. Zitadel is battle-tested and fully standards compliant with MFA and baked-in support for various external authentication providers.

One sign-in for Montel services

With Zitadel, we’re bringing a single sign-on experience across Montel services. Sign in once and move between the tools you use without repeatedly entering your credentials.

Our GitLab and MIR Customer Portal already support it. Our new Rancher environment and several other services are joining soon. Further down the road, this might even include signing in to UpCloud, where many of our customers host their infrastructure. Fewer login interruptions and better flow.

Your organisation, your control

You'll have full control over your own Zitadel organisation. You manage your users independently and can connect your existing authentication system, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft Entra ID. Your team can then use the company accounts they already know to login.

And this goes beyond accessing Montel’s tools. You can also add your own applications to Zitadel and use it to handle authentication in your software. The same service is there for your development team to build on. We'll be happy to help: we've already built the integration to several Django/Python and Phoenix/Elixir backends.

Authentication is a critical part of keeping services accessible. That’s why we’re extending the same 99.99% uptime promise we already give our MontelCare customers to Zitadel.

But I don't want anything to change!

I can understand that a new authentication service might not be as exciting to everybody as it is to me. That's ok. All existing login methods will continue to work as before. Zitadel is an addition and acts as the base for the upcoming features.

Now the first 🎁 has been opened. Second present will arrive already next week on the 9th of November!

P.s. Once you're onboarded to Zitadel, go test your credentials on MIR. Tina has done an absolute smasher of a facelift to the trusty old service. Including new features like allocation history.
